Everyone has the desire to win. The feeling of victory, whether competitively in a sport s contest or personally, makes one feel like they are at the top of the world and cannot be taken down. According to the Webster s New World Dictionary, victory is described as, â€Å"the winning of a battle, war, or any struggle† (658). The word victory is commonly used when talking about sports. Those who are striving to win play these sports, and personally, the taste of victory after a win is an incredible feeling of abundant pride. When talking about professionals or a team composed of young kids playing the sports they love, there is always the need to win to motivate a team. Whenever I step onto a basketball court and play the game, I always have†¦show more content†¦Personal struggles are an experience that everyone has gone through. Overcoming adversity is also a victory in its own right. For example, a drug addict trying to overcome a drug addiction. It takes a lot of work to overcome a drug addiction. An addict must go through rehab and fight the symptoms of withdrawal to stay clean to finally feel the victory of being free from drugs. Another example of overcoming adversity is going through the loss of a loved one. One must go through the five stages of mourning: denial and isolation, anger, barg aining, depression, and finally acceptance. Coping with a loss is ultimately a deeply personal and singular experience. Nobody can help an individual go through it more easily or understand all the emotions that they are going through. But others can be there to help and comfort them through this process. Of course the loss of a loved one does not equal a victory but overcoming these stages and making it to acceptance is a moral victory that one has achieved by overcoming adversity and a personal struggle with themselves. In the world today, every human has his or her own perspective about victory. It has a universal definition that could be considered bad or good. For instance, an individual could possibly have an ambition they would like to pursue with their life.
